Last Month the Japanese try to retrive this mod a little bit more. They played in the at 2pm CET. At the moment the gametracker, com Server Monitorring is off. Hope soon they turn it on. The ranking seems to work.
With many titles now expected to feature in-game advertising, its worth considering what the impact will be on the games industry moving forward.
I think more money to developers means more possibilities for technology and improvements in games although I think everyone would have concerns about being blasted with advertising when playing games as it is such a pain in the butt when using the internet.
Balance is important and relevance in the advertising is essential for it to work. The 30 yr old games player is probably interested in different things to the 13 yr old for example.
Tampa Highway was the first taste of in-game advertising that the Battlefield community was offered with Intel taking part. Previously there have been many examples of branding and product placement like this certainly within sports titles where I think it actually enchanced the realism of the experience.
GTA, although featuring bogus companies and brands helped to add realism to the game by featuring ad's and billboards... you see it in real life.. so that should make a game more real?
I don't mind it if it's done right. If I turn a corner and there's a big BUY ME ad staring me in the face then I don't like it but if it blends in then it's fine. __________________
I'm honestly more concerned with the people shooting at me than what's on a wall. 2142 did a good job of having it but not overdoing it __________________
The less, the better, but there is a certain degree that I'm willing to accept. In general, wherever there would be advertisement in a real-life situation, there could be advertisement. I do like in-game-universe advertisement, though. Have you spoken with Jebus today? You need insurance in a place like this!
Also, the range of games is limited. A Star Wars game might well feature advertisement of some sort, but advertisement for the latest gaming PC would be pretty bad. I'm not saying it can't be done (look at Audi's product placement in I, Robot), but it's difficult. Don't get me started on fantasy universe games.
Finally, there's the kind of advertisement that basically has to be there and actually makes the game better. Racing games that have an official license for the cars they show are better than those who have the cars distorted in some way. A rail simulator that comes with advertisement of railroads and features realistic paint schemes is also a Good Thingâ„¢.
EA promised advertisement in the server join field of Battlefield Heroes and similar. I think I can live with it as long as it stays reasonable, just like I can live with internet ads.
Ultimately, I think the value of in-game ads is overestimated. You can't expect to sell a game with ad breaks, so it's the same as trying to advertise in movies. It can be done (Apple does it. Take a look around: The good guys nearly always use Macs), but it can't be an extreme foreground element ever, so it's effect is limited. __________________
Games are getting more expensive to make, which makes it very hard to make a game on a budget if your not EA. So advertising used in realistic ways is fine with me. __________________
Our site could use the money. So its a yes from me. __________________

I dunno, the bf2142 ads never bothered me. Even though some of them were just ridiculous. I kinda like them actually. __________________

bf heroes will have loadscreen ads, menu screen ads, ads all over the opening stuff, but no ads at all in gameplay or elsewehre, at least that's what i've heard from game sites __________________

as for the basis of the topic, i agree with everyone else. i'd be aight with a game just as long as they use ads in a realistic and reasonable way. showering ppl with ads will just cause internet kill and poor customer attitudes. games that r showered with ads just take the funfactor away from it, and ppl won't buy it. just as others have said, use ads in a reasonable way when developing games __________________

also, i don't think ads will be a problem at all, cuz ppl who play ad infested games will just release mods to the public which remove the ad scripts from the game anyways, so it's pretty much a waste of time for game developers to add ads __________________
