Last Month the Japanese try to retrive this mod a little bit more. They played in the at 2pm CET. At the moment the gametracker, com Server Monitorring is off. Hope soon they turn it on. The ranking seems to work.
Hey guys, Polish here! As you remember, I made a thread about trying some new things and reinventing the way we play IS82 to get some more interest and action within the IS82 community. The very first step of my plan is to get some weekly or bi-weekly Grand Prix races organized. Think of these Grand Prix races as clan matches, except the clans are all within the IS82 community and will switch up its members until an equal balance is found. I'm sure we can eventually get semi-permanent teams together, but for now assume that team assignments are not permanent. I am hoping for at least 8v8 for the very first Grand Prix when it comes.
Details of the Grand Prix races are as follows:
-Three maps will be played per Grand Prix. -The team that wins two out of three maps will be declared the winner of the Grand Prix. -The First map will always be a Race map. -The Second map will always be a Battle Map. -The Third map will again be a Race map. -Each map will have three timed rounds (time limits will vary from map to map). To win the map, you must win 2 of 3 rounds. -The team that reaches the last checkpoint first is the winner. If time runs out, the team with the farthest checkpoint wins the round. Tickets and kills do not really count for anything other than slowing down the opposing team. -Teams will initially be randomly selected from the pool of people that want to play, but I will split up the really skilled elite players to make sure there is not too much talent on one team. These players will most likely be team captains. -Killing and shoving between teams is highly recommended! If you see an opposite team member outside of his car trying to repair it after a jump, run him over! Or, try and jump out of your car and shoot him.
Now, these maps will be a bit more combat oriented than usual. There will be a good amount of combat at checkpoints. To give you an example, say the Kingpin team is the first to capture a checkpoint on a map. Then, every single person on the Kingpin team continues on to the next checkpoint. The Vigilante team will eventually reach that first checkpoint, and capture it. Now, every single Kingpin that dies will have to start back at the very beginning. It will be crucial to defend the checkpoints owned by your team until a further checkpoint is reached. Some team members could completely bypass a checkpoint if they wanted to, and others could focus solely on defending checkpoints. If a bunch of cars arrive in a group to a heavily defended checkpoint, they could decide to skip it completely and continue on to the next checkpoint without trying to cap it. This would then turn in to a very heated game of cat and mouse. I think this could lead to some very interesting and exciting game play.
The maps currently on the server are fantastic for unorganized public play, or just trying to complete the map without actually racing. However, there are some problems with most of the maps when it comes to competitive clan-type play. I will need the help of a couple of really good IS82 map editors/creators to help me customize the race maps to be more compatible with type of game-play I am going for. Don't worry too much about this, the edits that I have in mind for the maps are fairly small. For example, you know how there is a "flags" version of the Problematic map? There will also be a "Grand Prix" version of the problematic map. The Grand Prix maps will differ from the normal version of the map by having many more checkpoints within it. This will cause more chaos in controlling checkpoints along the map and it will be quicker to get to an uncontrolled checkpoint as they will be fairly close together.
Also expect these Grand Prix maps to have weapons scattered throughout the track. This will encourage people to stop mid-course and jump out of their car to grab the weapon pack they saw on the road. This of course leads to more opportunities for the other team to run you over, or get out and shoot you!
So the next step is this, if you're interested in helping the cause and are very experienced at editing maps, send me a PM!! I believe the edits that I have in mind will only take a couple of hours. Once we have the first couple of maps edited for this type of game play, I will put together a time and date for the first grand prix and begin sorting out the teams.
If you have any comments, concerns or suggestions, please leave a comment! -Polish
This brings the death back in deathrace. that is the hook for me I like the thinking Polish. If you can line up a list of exactly what needs doing to a maps then I'll be one of the ones who helps out
When you say battle maps, do you mean infantry battles or auto-combat battles? Also, 3 rounds per map? Nine games seem like quite a lot. Otherwise sounds good. __________________
I am talking about auto-combat battles, like Streets and Highway, etc.
Nine games won't happen all the time, only when the third tiebreaker map is needed. I expect these Grand Prix to be around two hours. We can easily modify things to make them longer or shorter as needed.
Highway can be a bit dull as it is a huge map with often too few players. It is great fun when then there are many playing! We'll probably stick with smaller battle maps until we have enough people for the bigger ones. __________________
I think we should make a mountain climb race on Snowpeak, maybe make the road that's already on it better. Maybe start at the docks, go through the town, up the mountains, and to the bobsled. __________________
Maybe ctf for the battle map with so few people. or battle park i think it was called. just one base in the middle should make for better combat with little people. __________________
