I remember spending hours on the first Test drive, for the Commodore64 back in the 80`ties. Notice how the graphics has evolved in 20 years
This game is from 1987... Edit: The size of the pic makes it look better then it is! Imagine that picture stretched out on a ordinary TV. My parents had a 28 inch back then.

If you mean serious as in grounded in reality yes it is pivu, but its definately not GT style simulation its alot of fun, if you dont like this chances are you don't like real cars or driving.
some people have voted no, so what is the best racing game of the year?
Yes the whole game is basically free roaming with the missions and races there if you want, kind of GTA style pick and choose missions, you don't have to buy cars too, you can go to a showroom and test drive them.
From Eric Qualls, B) Your Guide to XBox Games. FREE Newsletter. Sign Up Now! Atari has been tight lipped about Test Drive Unlimited since it was first shown last May, but a few new details have trickled out. A lot of people were surprised when it didn't make it in time for the 360 launch, but it looks like the extra development time leading up to the June 2006 release will pay off. The game will feature over 1000 miles of Hawaiian roadway to explore as well as more than 125 licensed vehicles ( !heart cars and motorcycles). Each vehicle will also be fully upgradeable with licensed parts.
In addition to the standard single player racing there is also a feature called Massively Open Online Racing. In this M.O.O.R. mode, you can drive around and explore with hundreds and even thousands of other gamers. Yes, all of the other cars on the road in M.O.O.R. mode will be real people just like you. You can collect and trade rare performance upgrades with other players to create truly unique and personalized cars. Very cool.
Test Drive Unlimited is shaping up quite nicely. For more information check out Atari.com.
