you CAN drift a SAAB, but it's not REAL! definition: drifting: is the sliding of the vehicle(s) to due overpowered, wheel-traction loss of the rear wheels whislt turning in a controlled, (sometimes artistic) manner. In a FWD, obviously the rear wheels are not powered, so it's not DRIFTING! sure, you're sliding the car's ass end, but it's not (by a drifter's definition of drifting) technically called DRIFTING. but, i see that you agree that front wheel drive is kinda boring...lols!
now, as for outhandling BMW's and such....well, the thing is, you don't have to worry about the rear wheels breaking loose, on (your?) SAAB...unless you apply the e-brake of course! FWD cars will not spin out, they simply push towards the outer edge of the corners like overloaded dumptrucks with bald front tires on rainy days (seen it!). i know because i race a 4 cyl. mustang against a bunch of dodge neons, and honda civics, and other FWD cars on a 3/8 mile oval track....in fact...i'm the only car that CAN break loose in turns, all the others end up in the wall when they go too fast. and I go into the infield (usually, which is better, because i just get a bumpy off-road ride, whilst they face new radiators, and tie-rods and such!). back to the point, it's not just because your FWD, but it could be just because of your driving style/skills as compared to those of the beamer drivers(....car does not represent skill). I drive a 1990 DODGE 1/2 ton RAM pickup-truck, and I pwned a god dang '03 porsche 911 carrera in a off-the-red race to the next light (which was green!). HOW? because i caught him off-guard, and he was too chicken to take the approaching beng at the same speed as me! (on a 2 lane road wtf?) SO! no offense to you in particular, but if you want to drift according to definition (instead of just e-brake sliding), and notice that all HIGH performance sports cars are RWD, or AWD, and all race cars (except for specific FWD-ONLY) classes are all RWD and sometimes AWD (NASCAR, F1's, Indy, Le Mans...etc.)
P.S. if your wondering where i got the definition, i watch Formula D on SPEED channel where they mentioned the definition, and where I race (capital city speedway, Ottawa, ON, (Canada)) we host drifting comp's.....the people who judge the competition are professional's and I HAD asked them what "drifting" is, and they said something fairly similar to what i said, and the only classes of cars allowed are RWD's and (usually rear-wheel-bias) AWD's. proof enough...i would say! And i wasn't sayin nothin bad about SAAB's, i was just saying that i hate the idea of putting them in reverse, instead of 1st gear, to get the key out...it's just weird to ME! but anyway....that's just a little insight as to my mind on things about FWD's
