Last Month the Japanese try to retrive this mod a little bit more. They played in the at 2pm CET. At the moment the gametracker, com Server Monitorring is off. Hope soon they turn it on. The ranking seems to work.
So this is simply going on theory, but I think I know exactly why the map is causing the server to crash.
The main problem has to do with the spawn system, and all cars being within a relatively small area. (i.e. Parking Lot.) The thing is that the vehicle dispensers I created are meant to load a simplified object in place of a vehicle to make it so that your video card isn't forced to render a bunch of cars all at once. (Believe me, once I even got the lot half-full, it was lagging so badly that I knew I had to do something.) This means that your card will only need to render the vehicle that you want and whoever you're racing against, to save resources.
The problem with the coding though is that the dispensers don't directly dispense vehicles. What they do is each time the Fire button is pressed, it creates a spawner object and then the spawner itself is what spawns the vehicle. As far as I know, since these spawner objects are not actual physical entities, there is no way to destroy them unless somehow, the TimeToLive line can be successfully implemented. However, this was a concept that I hadn't learned at the time. (Reg, you up for giving that a shot?)
As long as the map remains active, these spawner objects will constantly respawn at least one vehicle at a time, once the dispenser has activated them. I have a strong suspicion that the root cause of this is from people going around and spawning every car in the map to test drive. Therefore, all the vehicles are repeatedly respawning and there are at least 30 unique poly-heavy vehicles in a close proximity at once. However, I'm not too sure if a map restart eliminates the stuck spawn objects or not.
The only advice that I can think of right now is this: Take the time to get a feel for the map in offline/local-mode. Give all the vehicles a try and then once you found something that works for you, grab it in the online-mode and stick with it. I know it doesn't sound like a lot of fun, but it seems like the only effective solution until I somehow find a way to implement a fix to that. However, that temporary solution will at least limit the amount of recursively-spawning vehicles.
Yes, keep the map going ! I didn't think the map was acting on its own, neither.
There's really none that are bad, I spawn a vehicle, and drive it. This one known dude wasn't letting us race neither, I think everyone else remembers that.
but after you have hit fire and driven away it doesnt spawn another there until someone enters again and hits fire right?
Maybe what it needs is just to be split up as you did with P1 etc.. just too much hot shizzle in one map.. and there will always be people wanting to spawn it all to see how it looks
Thats the awesome sandbox nature of '42 heheh
It would be easy to make a server patch to remove a heap of cars.. to reduce lag.. just need to know which cars i guess.
and anyway.. do you still fall through the track on collision?
that was teh suck.. need real heightmaps of these tracks.. if anyone can find them then post away as ill give that a shot for sure but race track style racing on objects just does not work.
but after you have hit fire and driven away it doesnt spawn another there until someone enters again and hits fire right?
Well my point is actually that it will, just not for a very long time. You can't kill the standalone spawner object after somebody's hit Fire. The spawner object itself is the problem. Although the TimeToLive line might work.
But anyway, rather than just doing a server patch, there's always the option of making mini-maps all sourced off the main map that only have a select number of vehicles spawning in each one. That's one easy way to divide vehicles up by classes.
I still didn't see the server crash, I can hardly believe it..dang.
The Nascar map, the muscle map, the mini/smart map, the grand tourer map, the japanese muscle map, it's too much and people won't be up for em..please try not to split PSNS :[
EDIT: Just loaded PSNS twice on IS server. Whoever says it's harmful to the server simply does not like the idea of breaking from deathracing..
