Last Month the Japanese try to retrive this mod a little bit more. They played in the at 2pm CET. At the moment the gametracker,com Server Monitorring is off. Hope soon they turn it on. The ranking seems to work.
I'm new to using real world DEM elevation data etc but after many hours figuring out how to open the weird file formats I managed to get a pretty decent resolution heightmap of the area (around 8km sq.. 5 miles.. i guess..)
Aerial imagery is, of course easier to get hold of. What is interesting is the ground coverage maps also available. These give an overlay of the type of foliage and undergrowth in the area.
the elevation / height data is to an accuracy where you can just about make out the road areas. From there, I have setup a scene in max and taken a road spline along the route. this will get a road profile added to it and then merged with the heightmap to create a proper road.
I'm making this as a bit of a side project to the rest of life,... currently for the BeamNG engine (have mentioned before, but man if this goes multiplayer.. then its is82 on acid.. easy to map make / mod too) ! lower res version can and will.. be ported over to is82.

this vid is a perfect, slow run up the mountain and I have to say that my max scene (in terms of the height and route) looks spot on currently
If anyone would like to try and make the (not too many) buildings that you see along this route then that would be awesome!
