Last Month the Japanese try to retrive this mod a little bit more. They played in the at 2pm CET. At the moment the gametracker, com Server Monitorring is off. Hope soon they turn it on. The ranking seems to work.

OK, now I'm currently looking through the stuff on www.bf-news.de. Here the changes to the aformentioned dates:
They have an interview with Michael Siebert (there's also an english version) here. We receive info here that he joined around february. A year is not given, but other info in the interview suggests it was 2003. At that time Interstate had no public release yet, so I don't know how accurate that guess is. The interview also tells about the organisation (pretty much none) and some interesting stuff for Interstate that did not get released yet... The mods future is secure... Ah, the good ole days, when everybody still believed this. An analysis why this did not work out would surely be interesting.
2004-01-19 Interstate 2004 officially announced.
2004-02-01 Patch 1.62 fixes problems with Battlefield 1.6
Release of 1.8 was first planned for 2004-07-17, but later delayed.
According to that site, 1.8 was released 2004-07-20 around 19:00. Since the post that it was released was an update without a date, this could be incorrect.
2005-02-25 They give a short update about IS82x, which happens to be the first mention of IS82x on their site. I wonder whatever happened to that mod, I mean I heard stories, but nothing official.
Another thing of interest: Among the first screen shots of Interstate 2004 were many I had seen previously on the forums, without thinking they were meant for Interstate 2004, like the Apache and a 747. What ever happened to the golf cart and the JetRanger? They were planned for 1.7 (which then became 1.8), and I think there was more like that.

The golfcart had some lag trouble, 747 I never saw that. Apache (Also the Hind) from DC was used for filming and maptesting in the beginning. Jetranger? Damnit boy, you know alot more than me it seems. lol
And yes, a bit of history on the cars would be cool. [ Edited 07 Jun : 21:22 ]

Both the 747 and an Apache (not the one from DC) were published in the forum on www.bf1982.com and later shown as IS04 WIP pictures. They are still linked on some of the sites I told about. I never heard about the DC stuff in Interstate, I gotta download all these GBs of teaser videos Interstate published.
2003-06-02 First time Interstate gets mentioned as a new mod. Description (direct quote):
BF1982 Interstate mod is based on the interstate universe from 1976 to 1982. It will have two characters the boring guy and the people who don't like the boring guy. They will be given a car, weapon, and will fight on the desert so they won't distrub the popluation of texas.
On the screenshots we see a camaro and a corvette. Highway only closely resembles what we know today, there is still the old BF42 interface instead of the blue one we all love so much.
2003-06-03 (they're fast, huh?) We see pics of the alpine, the mangusta and the kingpin player skin.
2003-06-09 The airport!
2003-07-21 We see pics of a demolition derby map. I've never seen this map in a release, but lots of the stuff we see there can be found in the virtually unplayed survivor arena.
OK, then comes a lot of stuff we already know.
2004-07-01 We hear about Movie World and (here comes the interesting thing) another Mini Mod combining vanilla BF, DC and Interstate.
2004-07-22 Mapping contest announced. AFAIK, it's still running :-) The other sites reported this as well, I only included it here because I finally made up my mind about posting it or not.
2004-09-19 The A-Team mod made an update! I always thought all it did was being announced and opening an empty forum on www.totalillusions.net/forums, but it seems that it had an update!
2005-02-26 The uncontinued racing part of Interstate 82 Expanded, extended, experience - no idea what the x stands for - is released, making this the last release of any new interstate content except for single maps. If you want to download it, I still got it on my homepage, http://www.ferroequinologist.de/mirror/is82x_-_the_uncontinued_racing_part.exe
BTW, the modification date there says I uploaded it 2004-03-01
2004-03-02 Brownfield and Crater got released. Since they were planned for IS82X, I guess this means that between this post and the previous one the IS82X project has died. Too bad.
The rest they report about are official updates from IS 04, custom Interstate Maps and custom maps for other mods with Interstate content. [ Edited 07 Jun : 21:29 ]

OK, this time I tried getting through www.bf1942-fr.com, a site calling itself Battlefield Normandie. I knew from my earlier research that L'étranger posted something there, so this seemed like a good idea. It wasn't exactly a bad idea, but the info was not too interesting. My french isn't too good, but I tried.
2002-09-29 A forum post clarifies that a video where L'étranger participated used music from Interstate 76. This shows that L'étranger was already interested in Interstate around this time. Which is probably not big news, but anyway.
2002-11-07 L'étranger mentions Interstate and tries to recruit someone for it. At that time, he refers to it as Interstate Battlefield 1942, which is probably more a description than the actual name yet. This is the first mention of Interstate I was able to dig up so far.
2003-05-31 L'étranger publishes a video of Interstate here. First time interstate is really mentioned, as a front page news item, on this site.
2003-06-08 A guy named pika complains about the lack of L'étranger's mod. This is the first time someone complains about the delays in creating Interstate BTW, an unnice comment L makes about EOD (something along the lines of noobmod) causes a three page flamewar.
2003-06-06 L. posts screenshots to celebrate the launch of www.bf1982.com
2003-07-08 The screenshots showing first parts of the town system. This site, unlike others, also shows a screenshot illustrating a highway system. Looks nice, I wonder what ever happend to that? But there are more like this on the course of Interstate...
2003-07-17 A forum post again shows that L is very self confident and believes that he has made more progress than EOD. He also says that he has worked practically alone on the mod.
2003-08-22 Someone talks about a mod called streetwars, which could be a competitor to Interstate. The site linked to is replaced by something about the DMCA, so no idea what this all was about.
Obviously, most of the posts here deal with L'étranger, but on the other hand, he appears to be admin or moderator on that site, so he is the premier source for Interstate there. We also learn that the community on this site likes Interstate quite much.

Triple post rules!
I was able to dig something intersting up, by searching the TI forums trashcan. A long spamming thread (I wasn't innocent either, to be honest) revealed that an Interstate Developer tried to trick the team of the Highway 80 mod (an Interstate mod for HL2, independent of all the Interstate we know) into working for the Interstate 2005 mod. http://www.totalillusions.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=179&st=50

But I thought I read somewhere that they were intended for IS82X once, or was I mistaken?
Today, I've looked at www.bf1982.com using the web archive, http://web.archive.org/ good ressource for research. For some reason however, there are no dates on the sites. Too bad.
Anyway, one date is given as 06/05/03, no idea in what order though. At this stardate, www.bf1982.com was opened.
Later, we see the first screenshot of the vigilante player model, later something about a motorcycle. Too bad this didn't ever make it ingame. Next thing is the yellow Ferrari, to give you a reference point.
Later, we see nothing else of interest, since the web archive does not save everything in it's index. Too bad. And they have nothing about IS82x, either.
The DC stuff was added to deathrace, along with some other fixes. It was even changed to a night map. That map was only available to people on the dev. team and a couple friends of the Kato Arabel. He was the person that made it and filmed it. It turned out to be a really cool video. He even added his own effects in editing. The movie was called GUNMETAL: Racers Edge. I wish we had a backup of the old forums. I'm going to see if Kato has a copy of the movie. If so I would be happy to pass it along. In the mean time, I have the teaser for that movie if any wants it.
There is another video out there from bf1982 glory days. The Aurora Valley preview. !HERE!
EDIT: Ok I found it for those that would like to watch it. It is a 100mb file. Get it !HERE! They also have a few more Interstate movies.
