Last Month the Japanese try to retrive this mod a little bit more. They played in the at 2pm CET. At the moment the gametracker, com Server Monitorring is off. Hope soon they turn it on. The ranking seems to work.
The biggest determining factors for me to join the server are whether there's
a. anyone in there and b. if I have the map.
What I think is important to consider is that if your favorite map was on the server but the server was empty or maybe had only 1 person in there you probably wouldn't join.
but..
if one of your least favorite maps was running and there were 10 people in the server, you would almost certainly join the party.
The problem is knowing whether there is anyone in the server unless you check the site.
Are there any systems where all of us could receive a message via IM whenever someone joins the server?
This could be very cool to spot when the action is happening and bring people in.

This should be fairly easy to do through LGSL, right Rich? a. factor is crap. If everyone thinks like that, then we have a forever empty server. Join, stay idle for 5 minutes and if nobody joins, get on with your life, but chances are people will join you. Certainly if you are an ISR God of Interstate.

For Mac OS X users, there's a dashboard widget that'll tell you immediately who's on a server and who not (I think I found it due to Innovation mentioning it, but I'm not sure anymore). You can find it at http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/games/[ma]bf1942serverstatus.html (you can change what server it connects to easily).
An idea using IM sounds interesting...
@Hunter: You're right, I'm sorry, I should play more, I just don't have a lot of time right now.

Ah yes, Ive brought that whole sparking effect up before(one person joins...then more and then more and more) and my response was like Twisteds "If everyone thinks like that, then we have a forever empty server" we just had like 6 people in the server, i'm not sure how it started but it only took a couple minutes for all of us to leave. Later ala will get home and we will probably play some interstate
