that happened to me about a month ago. definately a virus. i tried to recover using spyware programs like spybot and adaware, but after several hours trying to clean up the damage, which i managed to do, the computer ran sluggish and unstable. in the end i backed up all importand data to my slave HD which stores all my files, and formatted the master drie with a fresh install of windows. have fun.

There seems to be be 2 VERY important things XP users tend to forget.

1. NO Antivirus or spywareprogram can remove or repair files protected by XP's system restore, so that HAS to be shut down prior to a cleanup.

2. Files in use/locked by bad software can't be removed unless you are in safe mode, which starts only the "core systems".

But a fresh install every now and then is not too bad

Clears up space, speeds up the system etc..
