Many users have reported crashing issues with 1942, resulting from Win Vista/7 Operating Systems. This short tutorial is what I have personally found to fix the issue for me, although it may or may not work for you.
Step 1: Download the server browser fix from the download section (mod and patches section)
[The admins probably don't want me linking to crack sites ] (dont want any links.. regardless of how many people may use these here.)
Step 2: Install the crack to your 1942 base directory [(x86) for x64 users], and when asked to add the files to the registry, be sure to do so.
Step 3: Locate your BF1942.exe in your start menu, and click Properties. Select the Compatibility tab, and select the following settings:
Compatibility mode: Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5).
Settings: Disable visual themes, Disable desktop composition, Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.
Privilege Level: Run this program as an administrator.
That should hopefully fix the crashing issues, however, this may take up to a few days to take effect on the program. You may still encounter crashes for the first few days, but eventually it will iron itself out
SID.. whats this running as single core stuff.. I guess simple but how do I do it? Running in compatibility mode has no effect for me.. sometimes its fine.. sometimes it crashes 4 times in a row..
edit.. I googled a bit and can see that you set the affinity on the processes page.. but my crashes are on load so it would be more useful to set this up before hand rather than after starting the app.

as far as i know m8 you need to have the prosess running before you can alocate it a core. mine used to crash when i was playing so am allways able to set it single core first!
there does seem to be programs that alter the exe file but not tried them!
Are you quad core SID? Im quad here - Win7 64bit.. maybe its quad/newer cpu's that are more of a prob.. weird that its a random prob I will try setting the affinity though
This seemed to be working for me.. changing affinity.. but then its hard to tell given that the problem is sporadic. but then it failed last night a few times.
NOW I have noticed a new issue.. I joined a DC server yesterday and got the popup about 'visual components not being compatible with this application blah blah.. chaning to windows 7 basic themes.. blah blah'
This has never happened before in the year I have been using 7. Then happened again on the IS82 server.
