OK, then I'll do the big program thing, no problem for me. Is there any command line switch for Battlefield 1942 so it'll right load a map when starting? I seem to recall that Battlecraft managed to trick Battlefield into doing just that, but I could be mistaken here.

Thanks a lot! That means the RFA tool will have an option to save and start the map you're currently working on in one step, similar to Xcode's Build and Run. I may know nothing about modding and mapping, but when programming you're just as grateful for a hassle-free build-and-run cycle, so I completely understand your feeling.
Other suggested feature: When adding an image file to the RFA, you can specify that it should be converted to DDS right on the fly. Apple's frameworks can read it file formats such as Photoshop PSD directly, so you can ignore all that export stuff and just save in Photoshop.
Second suggested features, goes along with that: Referencing external files. When saving, if the external file is newer than the one in the RFA, the newer version will get embedded automatically, and, if it's an image, can get converted to DDS right away. Hit Save in Photoshop, click Run in the RFA tool and test the new version right away. Does that sound like a good idea?

What file types should be treated as editable text files? con, rs, ssc for sure. Also .backup (i.e. all the .con.backup ones in the folders) and .bak? Does anyone care about them? Did I miss any? (Probably, but which?) This is important because I have to treat binary files different from text files (binary files get treated just as data, but I store text files internally as unicode strings, and there could be data loss if I get it wrong). I'll stick with these for the moment, but if you know more, please tell me.
