This is always a good topic on forums (maybe there already is one here). I like all music but I grew up a metalhead, some of my favorite metal bands are (in no order):
Iron Maiden Megadeth (old stuff Countdown and prior) Metallica (I'm a first four album fan actually only really like the first two) Slayer (Again I'm a classic fan mostly digg the albums before Divine Intervention) Anthrax (Love the classic stuff with Belladonna) Crowbar (the heaviest band in metal literally and figuratively lol) Corrosion of Conformity DOWN Pantera (Overrated but still an original band) SuperJoint Ritual Dying Fetus Nile KAOS (Local Bay Area band) Napalm Death Deicide Morbid Angel Sepultura (Max Cavalera era can do no wrong one of my fav. thrash bands) Hatebreed (over/underrated) Soulfly The Melvins (Pink Floyd of metal?) Entombed Mr Bungle (Not sure if I consider them metal though bad ass band!) Thats all I can list right now, heads started to hurt.
I also love instrumental jazz, some bad ass Jazz musicians to consider:
Les Paul (Early Jazz Trio recordings are gold and are great examples of one of the greater guitarists that ever lived) Herbie Hancock Miles Davis (some of his exploratory albums like Bitches Brew are amazing records) Dave Brubeck (love his early quartet work not so much on most of his standard career though) John Coltrane (Turn the lights down for the ladies! amazing player)
I also throwdown on 70s rock too
UFO Thin Lizzy (Bad ass stuff) Queen Deep Purple Black Sabbath Kiss Judas Priest
Instrumentalists are awesome sickness. Mr. Bungle..I think Cephalic Carnage were really into the Bungle. My axe is alright, I just wanna jump from a 6 to 8 string already !! Deeeeep !!
I'm checking the video now. I love my smooth instrumental jazz. All the UNTUNZUNTZUNTUn crap is s0o0 overrated. Yeh, I like electronic, but must be chill.
EDIT: And I don't know much about Avante. I never really liked Patton much.
About Sepultura/Soulfly they're alright. MAN I love the little Soulfly instrumental pieces in each album. And yes, Max Cavalera man, most angry vocals ever. And shredding the 4 strings, lol. There's also 1 album from him, and his brother drumming. They were Cavalery Conspiracy. But that's all they've done I'm afraid.
But please, shoot me a John Coltrane tune or two. I think I've only heard 2 of his pieces. I remember In A Sentimental Mood. I'm not sure what's original, what's from the studio album. It could've been 10 minutes, I totally forgot. Oh I think those 2 pieces were both John Coltrane & Duke Ellington. Magnificent.
I think we all kinda like a bit of everything out there. There's at least one piece of Classical, Rap, House, Metal, Funk, pop, power ballad out there that you just can't help liking a bit. So that said, its always tough to pinpoint things but I do still have a special spot for all the early 90's UK rave/d&b/hardcore etc that I used to party to. Likewise all the hip hop from that era - chronic/doggystyle/regulate! etc, etc...
although I never used to appreciate the 80's at all they have started to make sense to me over the past 5 years and it was an epic time for anything electronic. The Vice City soundtrack for instance is probably one of my fave albums of 80's classics.
I made my own mp3 player on 20bensons.com with 100's of hours of oldskool rave/d&b etc.. its worth a click through..
Warning: Take a lot of drugs before listening
Mix 10 - Fabio is a good, authentic live set.. I can picture myself in the crowd, pulling a face with eyes rolling to the back of my head, sweat pouring down face dancing like a legend/douche.. heheh.. time of my life.

New Cavalera Conspiracy album is coming out soon. A proper Sepultura re-union may never happen. Did I mention that I've seen most of the bands in my list live at least once. Hell Maiden I"ve only missed two tours in the last 11 yrs one was cancelled and last years show was too close to my wifes due date.
I like a little electronic stuff too but I'm mainly into mainstream stuff like NIN, Fatboy Slim, Dub Trio, etc......
